Indian families and individual privacy - this seems to me an impossible combination in most of the Indian families.
Mobile phones are kept in everyone's reach. Anyone in the family can read texts and see the log of any family member..just because we're a closely knit family, does it mean we won't have personal conversations with friends? - isn't it natural to have conversations that we don't want anyone else to read? It can be anything at all - discussing ambitions, hobbies, books ..but some people are just not comfortable letting others read them. And I feel it's absolutely fine to have private conversations.
Secondly, books, private use and other such areas are easily meddled by others of the family. I just hope there are no incidents of people reading others' personal diaries...
There may be so many other factors which I'm not enumerating now. I personally feel that there needs to be some amount of privacy in the house ...perhaps not so much that people go wayward. But the basic privacy I feel is lacking...at least in many families I know.
