Yes, I am a patriot. But that doesn't mean I believe that India is the best country in the world in every aspect. And this doesn't mean that I am a person who says India is the worst country. Every country has pros and cons, and so does India. Being citizens, it is our duty to rectify the demerits and develop and publish the merits. But many of us do not seem to be doing it, although we all realise that this is important. We have from somewhere developed this misconception that just by speaking and publishing the merits and demerits of our country, our duty is done. But do we go beyond?
What is worse, people who experience the harshness of the darker side of the country seem to conduct hate speeches, rather than trying to fight against evils and overcome the hardships. But where does this lead? Mere creation of anger and hatred? Instead, shouldn't we be doing something that rectifies the flaws of a region and develops it for the better?
One such community on facebook called "The Reality of India" is a community that conducts hate speeches and posts gruesome pictures. They only seem to be publishing the demerits. This does not appear like an attempt to change things for the better. When this is the case, we must BLOCK the page. There may be one hundred good and bad things about India. We need to attend to them, rather than just speaking about them. This does nothing good. It only creates hatred.
The admin of this community seems to be clever. The admin (calls self as an Indian woman) seems to have anticipated 'blocks', and so has created a number of facebook pages with the same name (It is my guess that the admin for all these pages is the same, because the picture is the same and the content is similar.), each with different categories such as 'Community', 'Athlete', 'Biotechnology', etc. Worse, one of the categories was 'Government Official', which I strongly believe is fake.
PLEASE BLOCK THESE PAGES NOW.
Steps to block:
1. Open the page "The Reality of India"
2. On the right hand side, you will find "Like", near which is another drop down icon designed like a wheel. Click on it.
3. On the drop down that appears, click "Report page"
4. Choose "Hate Speech"
5.Choose "Targets a race of ethnicity"
Being Indians, it is our duty and responsibility to stop such activities. I was very happy to see pages like "Response To "the reality of india" page" which publish the merits of the country.
Please block such pages/websites. We need thousands of people to block, so that facebook deletes this page. We need to spread the word. Now.

dont my bit, reported the page
ReplyDeleteThanks Sanket.. but looks like there's some problem with it. A friend of mine received an e-mail from facebook saying they did not find anything offensive in the page. I really don't understand how ..we must ask "What is not offensive" and facebook says nothing there is offensive. Looks like blocks are not the solution. We must do something else about this. Anyway, I guess we must still continue asking people to block. Many blocks may make facebook rethink.
